Before the itinerary comes a decision: which weekend of the year. This guide compares the seasons, measures what fits from Friday to Sunday, flags what closes on Sunday and breaks down what each item costs.
A weekend in Seville is decided before the itinerary: depending on the month, the same 48 hours stretch to twice as much or half as much. In Holy Week you see one monument per half day; in August the heat splits the day in two; in autumn everything fits more easily.

What fits into two days, two and a half or three?

Your flight time decides more than the number of days. Landing on Friday evening gives you two full days; landing on Friday before lunch adds a whole half day, enough for Triana or the cathedral.
How much time does the Alcázar really take?
Here the sources disagree, and it is worth knowing both figures. The real-duration guides this site already uses give 2 h 30 to 3 h 30, queue and gardens included.
The working estimate built from Visita Sevilla's opening hours rises to 3 to 4 hours, with 15 to 45 minutes of waiting. Without a booked ticket, the queue alone can take 30 to 90 minutes, and no official source publishes waiting times.
The Alcázar free slot does not help on a weekend: it falls on Mondays late in the afternoon, often from 18:00 to 19:30. If you fly home on Sunday, you will miss it.
Which weekend of the year should you choose?
- Autumn (October and November): the best balance for walking. There is a cultural programme, and the monuments are a little less crowded than in spring.
- Winter: short days and seasonal hours that cut into afternoon visits. Do the outdoor sights before dark.
- Spring: courtyards, parks and processions, but also the highest demand of the year. Holy Week and the April Fair are nothing alike: not the same crowds, not the same hours.
- Summer: average maximum temperatures (1981 to 2010 series) are 36.0 °C in July and 35.5 °C in August. The weekend is reorganised into two halves, early morning and evening.
In 2026 Holy Week ran from 29 March to 5 April 2026, and the forecast for 2027 is from 21 to 28 March 2027. The dates move every year with Easter: a weekend that falls inside it is a different trip.
What changes if the weekend falls in Holy Week?
The processions organise the city from the afternoon until the small hours. In the morning there is room for one major monument, perhaps a second one very close by; from 17:00 onwards, avoid planning several crossings of the centre.
To change streets or get past a packed area, allow 30 to 60 minutes of margin, a practical estimate the authorities do not publish. The cathedral, the Giralda and the churches close or cut their hours on certain days, and "open" may mean access for worship only.

Sunday is the day that breaks the most itineraries. The general guides give the Archivo de Indias shorter Sunday opening, and the Torre del Oro often has reduced or different hours at weekends.
The cathedral and the basilicas may close to visitors during services, and the religious timetable overrides the tourist one. The safe rule: put the cathedral on Saturday and keep Sunday for a monument with a booked ticket and outdoor spaces.
How much does a weekend in Seville cost?
There is no single published budget, but there are the individual items. The two big tickets are the Alcázar, between €14.50 and €15.50, and the cathedral with the Giralda, between €12 and €15, according to the 2026 guides.
Two nights outside the peaks range from between €45 and €75 a night in a guesthouse to between €90 and €150 a night in a three-star hotel. Resold tickets and guided tours add booking fees that do not appear in the headline price.
The Plaza de España, Santa Cruz and Triana are free and fill a good part of the weekend. The list of things to see in Seville with real prices and times separates the free from the paid.
What should you drop first when it does not all fit?
- The trip to Itálica, if you are staying less than three days: the visit needs at least 2 to 3 hours, plus the journey, in other words half a day.
- A second outlying neighbourhood: Triana or Macarena, not both.
- The smaller museums, unless you have a specific interest.
- The Torre del Oro, if your priority is architecture or Holy Week.
Triana on its own needs 1 h 30 to 3 h. What you should not cut is the Alcázar or the cathedral to squeeze in one more stop: that ends in a race from queue to queue.
